Barley stripe mosaic virus(BSMV00)

Distribution details in Canada

Situation
Current pest situation evaluated by EPPO on the basis of information dated 1972: Present, restricted distribution
From CABI Disease map 391 (1999): Present, restricted distribution
Comments
The Canadian NPPO stresses that all breeder's seed of barley is screened for BSMV before release, so the virus occurs at very low levels only. It is slowly being eliminated from Canadian barley. In recent years, it has been extremely rare in western Canada (Haber, 1998, pers. comm. to Canadian NPPO).
