First found in August 2020 on sea grape (Coccoloba uvifera) near Miami Beach, Florida. The first specimens had been noticed by a member of the public who had posted pictures on iNaturalist. The identity of the pest was then confirmed in September 2020. The pest was also observed in the same area on Canavalia rosea.
