Eotetranychus lewisi found again in Switzerland
In Switzerland, the mite Eotetranychus lewisi (Acari: Tetranychidae - EU Annexes) was first found infesting Euphorbia pulcherrima in a greenhouse in Zürich in October 2021, before later being eradicated (EPPO RS 2021/241, RS 2023/106).
At the end of July 2026 an outbreak of E. lewisi was reported in the canton of Zürich by a professional operator on seven E. pulcherrima plants that were part of a shipment from an EU Member State. No symptomatic plants were found in the two other greenhouses belonging to the operator. Eradication measures are implemented, including the destruction of symptomatic plants, and the application of plant protection products on all asymptomatic E. pulcherrima plants in the facilities of the professional operator. A further inspection is planned, following the treatment, after which a decision on further phytosanitary measures will be made.
The pest status of Eotetranychus lewisi in Switzerland is officially declared as: Present, under eradication.
