Update on the situation of Anoplophora glabripennis in the USA

In the state of New York, Anoplophora glabripennis (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae – EPPO A2 List) was first recorded in 1996 in New York City and regulated areas have been established in several parts of the city and the neighboring counties. As of 2025, quarantine areas only remain in Nassau and Suffolk counties. In August 2026, part of the quarantine areas (7.4 square miles, about 19 km2) were removed in total in both counties. Eradication measures continue in the remaining quarantine areas.
- South Carolina
In South Carolina, A. glabripennis was first found in 2020 (EPPO RS 2020/115) in Hollywood (Charleston County). Another outbreak was detected in August 2025 in Mount Pleasant (Charleston County) and additional detections occurred in Hollywood. As a consequence, quarantine areas are extended by 16.5 square miles (42.7 km²) in Mount Pleasant and by 25.2 square miles (65.3 km²) in Hollywood.
The pest status of Anoplophora glabripennis in the USA is officially declared as: Present, not widely distributed and under official control.
