Plant diseases newly reported from Romania
During official surveillance between 2021 and 2025, the following pathogen species have been officially recorded in Romania for the first time:
- Xanthomonas euvesicatoria pv. euvesicatoria (EPPO A2 List): detected in 2022 on a Capsicum annuum plant from Ilfov county.
- X. euvesicatoria pv. perforans (EPPO A2 List): detected in 2025 on a Capsicum annuum plant from Brăila county and on Solanum lycopersicum plants from Vâlcea county.
- Grapevine flavescence dorée phytoplasma (EPPO A2 List): first detected in 2021 in Botoșani county (North-East region) (EPPO RS 2022/016). It was detected again in several counties in eastern Romania in 2022, 2023 and 2024. In 2024 one outbreak was detected in western Romania and in 2025 two outbreaks were detected in southern Romania.
- Cercospora kikuchii (EAEU A2 List): detected in 2023 on soybean (Glycine max) seeds for export. Analyses carried out in 2024 and 2025 confirmed the spread of this pathogen across multiple counties, especially in the south part of the country.
- Cryptostroma corticale: identified on a maple tree (Acer sp.) from Vâlcea county in July 2025.
The article also mentions the first detection of two non-regulated pathogens of maize, once in 2021: Physoderma maydis and Sclerophthora macrospora, as well as a thrips of Asian origin on Morus (Pseudodendrothrips mori).
