First report of Lycorma delicatula in Moldova and in the EPPO region
The Agenția Națională pentru Siguranța Alimentelor (ANSA) of Moldova recently reported the first detection of the spotted lanternfly Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae - EPPO A1 List) on its territory. This is also the first report for the EPPO region.
An outbreak was detected in an industrial area in the Chisinau municipality. Both adults and nymphs were found on spontaneous vegetation, particularly on Ailanthus altissima. The identity of the pest was confirmed by the National Reference Laboratory (IP CNSAPSA).
L. delicatula is a quarantine pest for Moldova. Phytosanitary measures have been implemented. An infested area (about 7000 m2) and a buffer zone were delimited and insecticides applied. The initial outbreak in the industrial area is now considered eradicated.
Subsequent monitoring in the buffer zone detected isolated populations of the pest in public spaces. Phytosanitary measures will be taken on those isolated populations.
The pest status of Lycorma delicatula in Moldova is officially declared as: Transient.
