Eradication of Meloidogyne enterolobii from the Netherlands

The NPPO of the Netherlands recently informed the EPPO Secretariat of the eradication of all outbreaks of the root knot nematode Meloidogyne enterolobii (EPPO A2 List) on its territory. The last finding was on ornamental potted plants of Syzygium buxifolium originating from China (EPPO RS 2026/069).

The pest status of Meloidogyne enterolobii in the Netherlands is officially declared as: Absent, pest eradicated.

It may be noted that a recent article by Du et al. (2026) reports the detection of M. enterolobii during import inspection in China once on Hosta plantaginea imported from the Netherlands during the period 2023-2025. The NPPO of the Netherlands was not aware of this interception. They note that there have been no records of M. enterolobii on Hosta in the Netherlands even though surveys were conducted on Meloidogyne species in Hosta production.
