Eradication of Scirtothrips dorsalis in Germany

In Germany, Scirtothrips dorsalis (Thysanoptera: Thripidae – EPPO A2 List) was first detected in a greenhouse in Bavaria in May 2025 following trace forward investigations from an outbreak in the Netherlands (EPPO RS 2026/004). The NPPO of Germany has recently informed the EPPO Secretariat that from January 2026 until the middle of March only one additional S. dorsalis specimen was caught on the yellow sticky trap in the greenhouse. An insecticide treatment was applied. No further thrips were detected for six weeks after that treatment. The outbreak is considered eradicated and official phytosanitary measures were lifted in April 2026.

The pest status of Scirtothrips dorsalis in Germany is officially declared as: Absent, pest eradicated.
