New reports of plant diseases in Canada
Plenodomus tracheiphilus (EPPO A2 list) is known as the causal agent of mal secco of citrus trees in the EPPO region. This fungus was isolated from wilting elms (Ulmus sp.) in the province of Alberta in 2024 (EPPO RS 2024/157). P. tracheiphilus was also detected from elm trees in the province of Saskatchewan in 2024.
Erwinia pyrifoliae (Erwiniaceae - formerly EPPO Alert List) is reported for the first time in Canada. It was detected on strawberry plants (Fragaria x ananassa) in one greenhouse in British Colombia. Plants showed fruit rot and blackening symptoms.
Neopestalotiopsis rosae and a new aggressive Neopestalotiopsis species previously described in Florida (USA) was detected in Ontario and in Quebec on strawberry.
Potato mop-top virus (Pomovirus solani, PMTV) was detected in Manitoba.
