Update on the situation of Anoplophora chinensis in Croatia

In Croatia, Anoplophora chinensis (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae – EPPO A2 List) was first found in 2007 in Turanj (EPPO RS 2009/047), in Sveti Filip I Jakov, Turanj and Rugvica in 2014 (RS 2015/066), in Biograd na Moru in 2019 (RS 2020/219) and further outbreaks were found in Biograd na Moru and Turanj in 2021 and 2022 (RS 2022/124). Eradication measures are applied. The NPPO of Croatia provided the following updates:

  • In July 2024, one adult imago beetle was found in a trap placed in a sycamore tree (Platanus sp.) in a forest within the demarcated area in Rugvica, Zagreb County. Many signs of the pest were reported on nearby host trees. The adult was found 60 m from the garden centre where the first outbreak in Croatia was detected in 2014 (RS 2015/066).
  • In July 2025, new findings of adult imagos were reported in traps placed in a mixed forest of Pinus halepensis and Juniperus phoenicea in the demarcated area in Biograd na Moru, Zadar County. It may be noted that no Pinus or Juniperus species are currently listed as host of A. chinensis.

Eradication measures are being applied, including trapping and destruction of infested trees in the new outbreak areas and surveillance is ongoing.

The pest status of Anoplophora chinensis in Croatia is officially declared as: Present, under eradication.
