Amasa parviseta, Euwallacea similis and Xyleborus bispinatus are not established in Spain
In Spain, some specimens of the bark beetles Amasa parviseta, Euwallacea similis and Xyleborus bispinatus (all Coleoptera: Scolytinae, EU A1 Quarantine pest as ‘non-European Scolytinae’) have been caught in traps by researchers (EPPO RS 2023/175, RS 2024/053, RS 2025/211).
Following these reports, the NPPO of Spain informed the EPPO Secretariat that none of these species has been recorded during official surveillance activities, including the trapping for Euwallacea fornicatus sensu lato. The identity of the pests was not confirmed by the official laboratory.
The pest status of Amasa parviseta and Euwallacea similis in Spain is officially declared as: Absent, pest records invalid.
The pest status of Xyleborus bispinatus in Spain is officially declared as: Present: transient.
The NPPO of Spain has contacted the regional competent authorities to investigate the situation further.
