First report of Spodoptera frugiperda in Romania
The NPPO of Romania recently informed the EPPO Secretariat of the first report of Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae – EPPO A2 List) on its territory. The pest was found in the south of the country, in Calarasi county (region of Sud-Muntenia). Several specimens were caught in pheromone traps at the National Institute of Agricultural Research and Development – Fundulea. The identity of the pest was confirmed in November 2023 by the National Phytosanitary laboratory and the EU Reference Laboratory for Insects and Mites. Official phytosanitary measures are being applied according to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/1134.
The pest status of Spodoptera frugiperda in Romania is officially declared as: Transient, actionable, under surveillance.
