Tobacco ringspot virus is absent from Serbia
The NPPO of Serbia recently confirmed the absence of Tobacco ringspot virus (Nepovirus, TRSV – EPPO A2 List) from its territory. The record of TRSV in Yugoslavia appearing in the EPPO datasheet published in 1997 was in fact a misinterpretation of a paper from Mickovksi (1969) which described the detection of another virus (Tomato spotted wilt virus) in tobacco. In addition, all subsequent studies (Dukić et al., 2006; Jevremović et al., 2016; Stanković et al., 2011) focussing on tobacco viruses did not detect TRSV in Serbia.
The pest status of Tobacco ringspot virus in Serbia is officially declared as: Absent: pest records invalid.
