Meloidogyne fallax found in the United Kingdom


In the United Kingdom, Meloidogyne fallax (EPPO A2 List) was identified in July 2018 in a field of carrots (Daucus carota) in East Anglia. Second stage infective Meloidogyne juveniles were identified from extracted soil by morphology and the identity of M. fallax was confirmed by molecular tests (real-time PCR, sequencing). This is the first outbreak in this area of the UK and phytosanitary measures were taken to contain the outbreak. 

The pest status of Meloidogyne fallax in the United Kingdom is officially declared as: Present, under containment, in case eradication is impossible.
