Report on xanthomas stewarti in the Soviet Union
The Main Plant Protection Department of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Soviet Union asks for the following rectification :
"Attention should be drawn to a wrong information issued by the 9th Session of the Plant Protection Committee for the Southeast Asia and the Pacific Region (New Delhi, 2-9 Novembre 1973) concerning the occurrence of Xanthomonas stewarti in the Soviet Union.
X. stewarti is subjected to strict quarantine measures in this country where it does not occur. In 1970 one single maize plant was reported to be infested by the bacterial wilt in the Ukraine (Vinnizkaja region). This plant has immediately been destroyed and since then the disease has not been recorded at any place.
Thus the Soviet Union is considered to be free from X. stewarti."
