Update on situation of fireblight in France

Situation after
Situation after intense inspections during 1973
The presence of fireblight had been detected in 1972 on hawthorn hedges between Dunkerque and the Franco-Belgian border (see EPPO Reporting Service 31.8.1972). Since then several kilometers of infected or dubious hedges have been uprooted and replaced by barbed wire fences. No fruit trees which are scarce in this cattle farming region were found to be contaminated.
In 1973, inspections were intensified on the whole territory of France but they did not lead to any new discovery.
The Dunkerque focus did not expand during 1973 and the uprooting will be continued there during 1974.
