Discovery of Scirrhia acicola in Croatia

Scirrhia acicola (Dearn.) Siggers has been found at Crvena Luka, about 20 km from Biograd na Moru (region of Dalmatia). Young trees of Pinus halepensis were attacked over an area of one and a half hectares. The fungus was diagnosed in 1977 by the Commonwealth Mycological Institute in London.

As soon as the infection was noticed, intensive chemical control measures were initiated by applying copper fungicides. In order to prevent spreading of the disease, the surrounding (non-infected) areas were also treated with these fungicides.
