Notice no. 20 of the Federal Bureau of Agriculture (phytosanitary service)

All consignments of host plants of San José scale from countries in north or central Europe (Scandinavia, including Finland, Great Britain, Ireland, Benelux, Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, German Democratic Republic, France) must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate stating that the consignment and its place of origin are free from San José scale, plum pox and fireblight.

The material must in addition be disinfested before entering Switzerland, in accordance with article 18 of the Order of 5 March 1962, in the installations at Bâle-Wolf or Genève-La Praille. The exceptional acceptance by the Federal Bureau of Agriculture of a disinfestation carried out in the country of origin is suspended.

Notwithstanding the above, consignments of host plants of San José scale from countries known to be free from the pest are accepted without disinfestation provided the phytosanitary certificate carries the following declaration :
"It is further certified that the plants or parts of plants referred to in this certificate were grown and inspected in the exporting country, or were imported into that country after disinfestation.”

If the material is disinfested before importation into the exporting country, an authenticated copy of the official disinfestation certificate must be attached to the phytosanitary certificate.

The following countries are currently known to be free from San José scale : Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Great Britain, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland.

All consignments not satisfying these requirements will be returned or compulsorily disinfected.

Notices no. 12, 17, 18 and 19 remain in force.
This new regulation comes into force on 1st October 1979.
