The fireblight situation in the Federal Republic of Germany


According to the latest statement (21st October 1981) of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the fireblight situation in the different German Länder can be summarized as follows:

Baden-Württemberg

Firebight present in the upper Rhine plain, in the Rhein-Neckar region, aroung Tettnang and the Esslingen district. According to the Plant Protection Institute in Stuttgart, Cotoneaster is most affected, and more rarely Chaenomeles and Pyracantha. Except for one pear orchard at Lahr, the disease has not been found on fruit trees.

Bayern (Bavaria)

Fireblight not yet reported.

Berlin

Fireblight not yet reported.

Bremen

Fireblight generally distributed.

Hamburg

Mainly on hawthorn, then Cotoneaster. More rarely on pear trees or other cultivated plants.
Apart from the established localities, the pathogen has spread to the following north and northwest parts of the city: Duvenstedt, Volksdorf, Lemsahl, Bergstedt; Hummelsbüttel, Fuhlsbüttel, Ohlsdorf, Gross Borstel, Schnelsen and Eidelstedt.
Infection of Cotoneaster hybrid Cornubia has been found in one nursery. All infected or suspected plants were destroyed, and later inspection shows this focus to be eradicated. All nurseries in Hamburg are therefore free from the disease.

Hessen

Fireblight is established in the following districts: Bergstrasse, Darmstad­Dieburg, Gross-Gerau, Main-Kinzig, Offenbach, Odenwald, Rheingau-Taunus and Wetterau.
