New infection detected in Alsatia

During July 1982, the Plant Protection Service has detected infected Cotoneaster salicifolius plants in the city of Strasbourg.

This new infection seems to be limited to ornamentals in the city area (parks and private gardens) since neither have symptoms been found on hawthorns (Crataegus spp.) bordering the Rhine, nor on susceptible rosaceous plants in the nurseries of the Departments of Lower and Upper Rhine.

The principle apple and pear producing area (Rottelsheim) is currently inspected. Thirty-five ha out of 60 have been inspected, without revealing any contamination.

All plants found infected in Strasbourg have been destroyed and inspection goes nonetheless on in the city of Strasbourg, nurseries of the Departments of Alsatia and the fruit growing area of Rottelsheim.
