Geographical Distribution of Xanthomonas campestris pv. citri (Citrus canker)
According to recent information from APHIS, the present world distribution of X. campestris pv. citri (EPPO Al list) can be given more exactly than in the EPPO Data Sheet on this pest (Bulletin OEPP/EPPO Bulletin Vol. 9, n°2, February 1979) as:
Africa: Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Zaire, Malagasy Rep. and other Indian Ocean Islands (Comoros, Mauritius, Reunion, Rodriguez Is., Seychelles).
Asia: Indian Sub-Continent and Far East: widespread (Andaman Is., Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia (Java), Japan, (including Ryukyu Is.), Korea, :Malaysia, Nepal,
Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam).
Near East: Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen Arab Republic.
Oceania: Widespread (Australia (only Home Is. in Cocos Is. and Thursday Is.),
Caroline Is., Fiji, Mariana Is., Papua New Guinea, Guam).
North America: Mexico, USA (Florida).
South America: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay.
Attention is drawn particularly to the records in the Near East (since 1984), Mexico (since 1983) and USA (Florida). In the last case the citrus canker eradication campaign continues.
