American lupin aphid in Europe
According to Piron (1987), the N. American lupin aphid Macrosiphum albifrons Essig has now been recorded in UK in 1981, in Netherlands in 1984, and in FRG in 1986.
Meier and Schweizer (1987) also note its presence in Switzerland (1985).
It is now established in UK, where it is only occasionally damaging. Carter et al. (1984) describe the situation in UK, and note the potential danger for annual lupins grown as a break crop or for perennial lupins grown on reclaimed land. The risk for other countries growing lupins in Europe should be noted.
