New records of A1 rice bacteria
Xanthomonas campestris pv. oryzae and X. c. pv. oryzicola are present in the far East provinces of USSR. Both pathogens are currently in the EPPO A1 List of Quarantine Pests. Surveys are under way in the European part of USSR to investigate the possible presence of these bacteria on rice. It may be noted that X. c. oryzae has also been reported recently in Texas (US).
