Plum pox virus
The situation of PPV on apricot in Southern France is reported to be stable. The disease can be kept at a low level if diseased trees are regularly destroyed and nurseries produce healthy plants. Research is being conducted on the natural spread of the disease in orchards.
In Northwest Italy, plum pox continues to be found in new apricot orchards despite destruction of main infection foci. The eradication programme is being intensified.
In Spain, monoclonal antibodies against PPV have been obtained and are used to obtain more reliable specific diagnosis by ELISA.
