Beet necrotic yellow vein virus (BNYW) on vegetables

While BNYVV (an EPPO A2 quarantine organism) is best known as the agent of rhizomania of sugar beet, it also attacks other Chenopodiaceae, especially fodder beet, red beet, chard and spinach. Didelot & Cazimajon (1988), describe the symptoms on these other hosts, on which 'rhizomania' is also stimulated, except in spinach, which tends to show leaf symptoms. The ELISA test developed for testing sugar beet can readily be applied to these other hosts.
