Regional Fruit Crop Sanitation Program for Near-East
Eight governments of the Mediterranean and Near-East regions (Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey) are cooperating for 4 years in a UNDP/FAO project on "Control of Virus·and Virus-like Diseases of Fruit Crops". A regional program will be coordinated to develop national capabilities of production, maintenance and distribution of virus-free fruit crop planting material; to monitor spread of virus diseases and strengthen capabilities of plant quarantine personnel in detection of diseases. The regional coordination centre will be established at INRAT in Tunisia and crop-specific networks will be centred in Egypt (citrus), Turkey (stonefruit) and Tunisia (grapevine).
