Formal establishment of COSAVE
On March 9, 1989 in Montevideo, Uruguay, the Ministers of Agriculture of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, officially signed the agreement establishing COSAVE, the Plant Protection Committee for the South Cone. This is now an official Regional Plant Protection Organization in conformity with the provisions of the International Plant Protection Convention.
COSAVE was originally founded in 1980 as the Technical ad hoc Committee for Plant Health in the South Cone to act as a Regional Plant Protection Organization. The objectives of COSAVE are to stimulate and coordinate activities in the fields of quarantine, pest control, legislation, research, training, technical assistance and exchange of information.
