R.P. Kahn - Plant Protection and Quarantine (3 vols)
Dr. R.P. Kahn, lately of USDA/APHIS, has edited a three-volume treatise op 'Plant Protection and Quarantine', published by CRC Press, Boca Raton, Florida (US). Volume I, by Dr. Kahn himself, presents the underlying biological concepts, with much useful detail on quarantine pests, their nomenclature and biology. Vol. 2 (Selected pests and pathogens of quarantine significance) includes 16 chapters by different authors, of which the following may be of special interest within EPPO: pathogens of grapevine, nepoviruses, leafminers, wood-boring insects, fireblight, potato spindle tuber, plant quarantine diagnostic problems. Vol. 3 (special topics} includes 10 chapters by different authors, of which the following may be of special interest within EPPO: protocols for introduction of biological control agents, global pest information systems, early detection of new pests, regulatory treatments. The treatise contains a vast amount of useful information on plant quarantine and quarantine pests, and is written from a global (and not exclusively US) stand point.
