Distribution of Liriomyza huidobrensis in the EPPO region


Following a questionnaire sent to EPPO member countries, the following information on the distribution of L. huidobrensis has been obtained. L. huidobrensis is on the EPPO A1 List as a joint entry with Amauromyza maculosa and Liriomyza sativae.

FI (Finland) intercepted in imports only        On chrysanthemum cuttings from NL in summer 1988 and gypsophila from Colombia. Uncertain identification of L. huidobrensis (but definitely not L. trifolii) on other imports of        gypsophila from Colombia, NL and IL.

FR (France) intercepted in imports only        Control at importation of most susceptible plants is being strengthened, in particular of propagation material for horticulture. Internally, commercial enterprises likely to be at risk are being closely observed.

NL (Netherlands) locally established        In several nurseries of vegetables and ornamentals, under glass and in the open in the region of Westland. The original source of introduction is unclear. First
under eradication        indicated in August and confirmed in September. Stringent measures have been taken to prevent local and international spread. All growers with potential hosts,
       either        Infested or not, are informed on control measures. Individual growers are provided with a detailed control regime in order to eliminate an infestation at the
       end of an infested crop and to begin a new crop with healthy material. The object is to produce a very low infestation in glasshouses next spring. The pest is not
       expected to survive outdoors in winter.
