Female ovipositional behaviour of Thrips palmi


The ovipositional behaviour of Thrips palmi (EPPO A1 pest) was studied in China.
Experiments showed that mated females laid an average of four eggs per day, up to 204 in their lifetime (average 69) and tended to lay eggs between 9:00 and 16:00 h, especially between 14:00 and 15:00 h. Virgin females laid an average of five eggs per day, up to 164 in their life (average 81) and laid most eggs between 12:00 and 16:00 h.
