Thrips palmi vector of tomato spotted wilt virus in India
Previous reports have stated Frankliniella schultzei as the main vector of tomato spotted wilt virus (candidate EPPO A2 organism) on groundnut (peanut) in India. However, these reports were basing on a misidentification of the vector. Re-examinations of collections showed that the originally thought Frankliniella schultzei was in fact Thrips palmi (EPPO A1 pest).
In 1989 during field surveys collected Thrips palmi species were positive for tomato spotted wilt virus.
