Peach decline in southern Italy

Since 1983, a disease similar to peach yellows MLO, as described in the USA, has been found in southern Italy. The disease is spreading and is of economic importance.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the disease is not sap-transmissible, but is transmissible by cleft-grafting. Electron microscopy indicated the presence MLOs.
Peach yellows MLO is an EPPO A1 quarantine disease, therefore, further investigations are of special interest to EPPO.
