Situation of Phyllocnistis citrella in the EPPO region
As already stated in EPPO RS 95/208, quarantine status was not considered appropriate for Phyllocnistis citrella due to its extremely rapid spread to all citrus-growing countries in the EPPO region. In 1996-02-28/29, an EPPO/CIHEAM Workshop on Phyllocnistis citrella was held in Agadir (Morocco) to review the situation in Europe and Mediterranean Basin and in particular to discuss control methods. This Workshop made several recommendations concerning pest control and decided that another Workshop should be organized next year. The present distribution of the pest is now the following. It may be noted that the only citrus-growing area in the EPPO region which remains free is the Black Sea Coast (North-East Turkey, Georgia, Russia)
