Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. dieffenbachiae found again in the Netherlands

Symptoms of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. dieffenbachiae (EPPO A1 quarantine pest) were observed in plants of Anthurium andreanum in one firm producing cut flowers in Zuid-Holland in June 1998. The presence of the bacterium was then confirmed by laboratory testing. Eradication measures have immediately been applied: destruction of infested Anthurium plants and neighbouring plants, disinfection of tools, restricted entrance to the compartment of the glasshouse concerned.
It can be recalled that the disease was detected on Anthurium andreanum plants in 1997 (see EPPO RS 97/204) and was subjected to eradication measures.
