Alterations in soil microbial community and chemical parameters in ecosystems invaded by Acacia dealbata

The impact of Acacia dealbata (Fabaceae, EPPO List of Invasive Alien Plants) on soils of mixed forests and shrublands was studied. It appeared that soil chemical parameters were modified in the invaded sites. Total C and N, Ca2+, Mg2+, NO3- and NH4+ contents were significantly higher in invaded sites of both mixed forests and shrublands. Soil microbial community activities were affected by the presence of A. dealbata which may lead to an increase in the decomposition and mineralization rates. Modifications were greater in shrublands than in mixed forests.
