Non-occurrence of Peronospora tabacina in Netherlands

Peronospora tabacina was recorded on tobacco in The Netherlands in 1959, but in the following years, the commercial growing of tobacco declined to zero, and the disease also disappeared. There has been no record of P. tabacina in The Netherlands since 1965 (over 20 years ago), either on tobacco or on secondary hosts such as tomato or sweet pepper. It is concluded that the organism is no longer present. Necessary quarantine measures will be taken if the disease is newly encountered.

It should be noted that the latest version of CMI Distribution Map n°23 for Peronospora tabacina still has the fungus indicated for The Netherlands. In line with the above, this version should be considered out-of-date.
